Does Not Suffice - Diptych

"Does Not Suffice" explores my lived experience as a queer, trans, multiply disabled person, expressing the grief of encountering ableism within spaces devoted to progressive activism. It depicts a disabled person being given a literal "seat at the table," exposing the act as a gilded, bare-minimum performance of inclusion. The miniature scale of the seat, table, and utensils symbolizes how our needs are frequently dismissed as “too much”—too extravagant, inconvenient, or burdensome to be fully addressed. Their disproportionate size critiques these inadequate efforts that rarely go far enough to create genuinely accessible spaces.

At the heart of this grief lies a quiet, persistent hope. The disabled figure remains static, perpetually reaching for nourishment they cannot quite grasp. This speaks to the unfulfilled desire for real care, while the inherent hope in continuing to reach embodies resilience in the face of systemic barriers.

Through this work, I highlight the tension between superficial gestures that fall short and the meaningful changes required to create spaces where disabled people are truly seen, valued, and supported. Justice cannot be achieved through tokenism, but demands a fundamental shift in how society understands our needs.
